On April 21, 2015 Google released a significant new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm that’s designed to give a boost to mobile-friendly pages in Google’s mobile search results. It’s known as the mobile-pocalypse or mobile-geddon. Basically, search engine results on mobile will no longer include websites who are not mobile friendly. This means you may see different search engine results on desktop vs mobile. Google designed this update in order to give mobile-friendly pages more visibility. In a world where we spend countless hours on our phones, this would seem like a wise decision. However, the impact it made on some businesses was catastrophic. For the businesses whose websites were mobile friendly, they had no worries. If they weren’t, time was lost and money was spent to catch up while other websites continued to flourish.
