Software Knowledge. Graphic designers need extensive experience in all available software used to create designs. The better experienced they are in the entire Adobe suite, the more valuable they will be to you. It is also a good idea for graphic designers to be well versed in other design programs available by Microsoft, Mac, and online. It is our belief that in order for your graphic designer to create amazing work, they must know their tools better than they know themselves.
An Eye for Design. Seems like a no brainer, right? However, possessing such an eye is tricky. Good graphic designers must consider the psychology of your brand’s target audience. While you may think “little details” don’t matter in a logo, your target audience could immediately find something wrong with the image and decide to spend their monies elsewhere. One of the most important elements of your logo and overall branding is color. Good graphic designers will also understand the psychology of color. What does the color mean? What feeling does it give the audience? Why is the color important? These are all questions a designer must be able to answer confidently.
A Dynamic Mindset. If there’s one thing we’ve learned working with small businesses, it’s that the only constant is change. Knowledge of that concept helps in our content writing process – if it isn’t good the first time, do it again. A good designer has to keep in mind that potential clients might want something different and should not be “married” to their work, at all costs. Even with businesses that are just starting out, they might not know right off the bat what they desire from a logo or branding. Designers have to carry such a mindset (and have proper processes in place) in order to make the customer happy, because at the end of the day it is their image at stake.
